Afshan is an Indiana based attorney who focuses her practice on immigration matters. She is an AILA member with almost ten (10) year of experience as an attorney.
Prior to joining Saeed and Little, Afshan practiced in both the nonprofit and private sectors. She worked with the Lawyer’s Helping Families Program to seek attorney fees for indigent clients in dissolution proceedings, was the Legal Director of MAI Legal Services, and worked in small firm settings handling immigration matters. She has strongly advocated for immigrants and minority communities. In 2008, she co-authored and co-presented before the U.N. Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination in Geneva, Switzerland a UN Shadow Report titled, “The USA’s Breach of Its Obligations Under the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination to Protect the Rights of Muslims, Arabs, Middle Easterners, and South Asians.” In 2015, Afshan was the recipient of the Access to Justice Award in recognition of her efforts in promoting social justice and fighting on behalf of immigrants and underserved populations.
Her immigration experience includes family based petitions, removal of conditions, U visas, VAWA petitions, T visas, naturalization, waivers, asylum, and cancellation of removal cases. She has worked with clients from all around the world, including Mexico, Pakistan, Bangladesh, El Salvador, Honduras, Bosnia, Iraq, Thailand and the Ivory Coast.
In her spare time, Afshan enjoys serving on the Board of Exodus Refugee Immigration (Indianapolis based refugee resettlement agency), spending time with her family, reading, working out, being outdoors and traveling.
